Where will your Honda take you? Sechler’s Pickles
Whether you’re looking for an afternoon of fun, an entertaining day trip or a relaxing weekend away, northeast Indiana has plenty to offer. Join us as we explore some of the area’s most-loved destinations in our weekly blog series, Where will your Honda take you?
Traditional. Sweet. Candied. Hot and spicy.
No matter how you like your pickles, you’re sure to enjoy a visit to one of Indiana’s lesser-known gems, Sechler’s Pickles.
The pickle factory, located at 5686 State Road 1 in the quaint town of St. Joe, is about 45 minutes north of downtown Fort Wayne. Factory tours are available Monday though Thursday between the months of April and October. Tours begin at 9 a.m. and run every half-hour until 3 p.m., with a mid-day break between 11 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.
Guests begin (and end) their visit in a fun store that sells more than 50 varieties of Sechler’s pickles, as well as an assortment of pickle-themed gifts. (Pickle T-shirts or pickle bandages, anyone?) Then, you’ll enjoy a behind-the-scenes look at the entire pickle-making process. Along the way, you’ll learn where Sechler’s gets its fresh cucumbers and discover inside-information about the factory’s different production methods.
Groups of six or more should call ahead for a reservation, and all who participate in the tour should avoid wearing open-toed shoes or sandals and dangling jewlery. For more information, call 800-332-5461 or email [email protected].
