Sizzling summer heat can be tough on your car

Protect your car from the summer's HOT

Summer may have gotten off to a wetter-than-normal start in northeast Indiana, but don’t be fooled — the sun’s sizzling rays can still take a toll on your car.

Heat and humidity can be harsh during the last weeks of summer, ultimately impacting your car’s finish, fluid levels and tire pressure. With that in mind, it’s important to give your car a little extra TLC during the dog days of summer.

Check fluids and perform regular maintenance checks. Engine coolant, motor oil and windshield washer fluid should be checked often during the summer months. It’s not uncommon for fluids to run low, and replacing them is an easy fix. (Our trusty service technicians are glad to help. Click here to schedule an appointment.)

Check tire pressure often. Low tire pressure puts you at greater risk for a blowout, so do yourself a favor and check your tire pressure on a regular basis. Keep a reliable tire gauge in your glove compartment, and take advantage of the free air pumps available at many area gas stations. An added bonus? Properly-inflated tires will improve your fuel economy, too.

Give yourself — and your car — a break from the heat by parking in the shade when possible. If you have a garage, keep your car inside when you can. Otherwise, look for tree-lined street parking and shaded lots.
