Heads up! Texting is not the only form of distracted driving
Eyes on the road? Check.
Hands on the wheel? Check.
Think you’re safe? Maybe not.
If you’re mulling over a problem that arose at work, a discipline issue that needs to be addressed with your teenager, or a relative who is facing a complicated medical situation, you could be putting yourself — and other drivers — at risk.
Cognitive distraction is a very real thing, and recent research suggests that it can be extremely dangerous.
Even seemingly harmless activities like listening to the radio, talking on a mobile phone or using voice-activated features in your car can diminish your ability to effectively pay attention to the road.
What can you do? Try your best to minimize outside distractions, and be mindful of the task at hand: driving.
