CAUTION: Work zone ahead

MOTHER'S DAY

Three sure signs of spring: bluer skies, blooming buds, and …. road construction?

You betcha!

Spring’s sunny skies often mark the beginning of road construction season. As you make your way through work zones, it’s important to remember a few important rules of thumb:

Plan ahead
Listen to traffic reports and use apps like Waze to check your anticipated route before leaving home. Whenever possible, avoid construction zones altogether. Alternatively, leave early enough to account for slower traffic patterns.

Slow down
This is extremely important for everyone’s safety, but it can also help you avoid costly traffic tickets. Speeding in a work zone can cost a pretty penny.

Choose a lane and stay there
Jumping back and forth rarely saves time, so it’s probably best to stay put. Instead, try to make the most of your time by listening to an audio book or some favorite tunes.

Look out for road crews and construction vehicles
Road workers encounter dangerous situations every day. Be alert when you are traveling through an active work zone, and give workers ample room.

Don’t tailgate
Allow a little extra space between you and the car in front of you. Also, allow other drivers to merge when necessary.
