Untitled designIt’s winter in Indiana, which means snow, sleet and sub-zero temperatures are a way of life. When driving, it’s important to be extra careful, as road conditions can deteriorate quickly. Here are a few winter weather driving tips:

Make sure your car is in tip-top shape.
Preparation is key. Schedule an appointment with your service technician to make sure your ignition, brakes, air filters, spark plugs and battery are in good working order. Be sure you have plenty of antifreeze and wiper fluid, too.

Monitor weather forecasts.
It’s always a good idea to be prepared for inclement weather before you head out.

Inspect your tires.
Have them rotated and make sure you maintain proper air pressure.

Pack emergency supplies.
Keep a spare tire, a shovel and an ice scraper in your trunk. A bag of salt or kitty litter is smart to have on hand, too.

Dress smart.
If you do end up getting stranded, you won’t want to be without a warm coat, hat and gloves. It’s also a good idea to stow a few spare blankets in your car throughout cold-weather months.
