You’re one in 43.6 million!

Planning to travel this Thanksgiving weekend ? If so, you’re one of 43.6 million Americans with similar plans.

According to AAA, that’s how many U.S. residents will venture more than 50 miles from home this holiday weekend, and a whopping 39.1 million of those people will travel by car.

So what do you need to do to stay safe on the road? Here are a few pointers:

  • Check your tire pressure before you leave, as well as several times along the way. Keep a tire gauge in your glove compartment, and do a quick check when you stop to buy gas.
  • Plan your route. Avoid construction zones and have an idea of where you might stop to fill your tank. Mapquest and other online travel sites can be a great resource! (Navigation systems are great, but they’re not fool proof. It’s a good idea to do a little research before you head out the door – just in case!)
  • Pack grocery store snacks – they’re a lot cheaper (and perhaps healthier) than the food you’d grab at a fast food restaurant. Plus, if you have a good supply of munchies on hand, you can avoid unnecessary stops.
  • Traveling with children? Pack lots of books, games and toys. Consider tucking a few “surprises” in a bag, too.

Be safe, and have a wonderful Thanksgiving holiday!
