Spring showers can make roadways slick

Little by little, we’re starting to see a few telltale signs of spring … which means there’s a pretty good chance we’ll run into a little wet weather at some point over the next couple of months. With that said, we figured it would be a good idea to pass along a friendly reminder: slick roadways can be dangerous. (After driving in snow and ice over the winter months, a lot of drivers seem to let down their guard.) A few things to keep in mind:

  • Slow down – Even a little water can alter your car’s ability to stop on a dime. Take care not to follow the car in front of you too closely, and do your best to avoid sudden stops.
  • Change your windshield wiper blades – Over time, wiper blades tend to lose their effectiveness. If it’s been a while since you replaced yours, it may be time to purchase a new set.
  • Check the tread on your tires – Driving in a downpour? Tires with poor tread are much more likely to hydroplane on wet surfaces. Take a look at your tires before you find yourself in a dangerous situation.
