Fasten your seatbelts because the 2014 Accord Hybrid offers an unforgettable ride.

Don Ayres Sales and leasing consultants Andy Hitzemann and Matt Thorpe got their hands on this amazing car at the Honda Accord Hybrid Competitive Ride and Drive in Chicago a few weeks ago, and they say it’s the best midsize hybrid on the market — hands down. “We’ve driven the competition, and it’s not even fair to compare them,” Andy says.

Andy and Matt were among a field of about 50 sales consultants representing dealerships throughout the Midwest at the event, and after learning about the car’s remarkable specs and features, they got a chance to take one for a spin. It was no ordinary ride.

Event organizers sent participants out in teams, challenging them to cover a 10-mile street course with the highest mile-per-gallon calculation as displayed on the car’s high-tech instrument panel. Turns out Andy and Matt know a thing or two about maximizing a car’s fuel economy. Their team won the competition with an average of 66 mpg. (Admittedly, they were playing the game, implementing every smart-driving technique they could think of.) Under normal driving conditions, they say you’re more likely to get about 50 mpg, a pretty stellar number that aligns with the EPA’s city rating. “All it really takes is some conservative driving techniques, and it will automatically operate at the best efficiency,” Matt says.

Andy and Matt say there are still a lot of misconceptions about the 2014 Hybrid Accord. It’s not a plug-in car. Instead, it employs Honda’s cutting edge two-motor system to eek out every possible ounce of oomph. “It’s incredibly efficient all on its own.”
