Do you carry salt or kitty litter in your trunk?

Salt and kitty litter can help create traction on snow- and ice-covered roadways.

As far as snow goes, it’s been a pretty mild winter here in the Midwest … but it’s still always a good idea to be prepared. (For the record: winter weather can strike fairly quickly, so it’s best to take preventive measures.)

A few bags of salt or kitty litter can come in handy. Here’s why:

First, most bags of cat liter and salt weigh in about 20 pounds. By storing a bag or two in the trunk of your vehicle, you’ll automatically add rear traction. If all goes well, you won’t get stuck in the first place!

If you do happen to get stuck, simply tear open one of the bags and sprinkle an ample amount of kitty litter or salt under and around your tires. It’s also a good idea to sprinkle some wherever you’re standing, as your feet will need traction, too.

Keep in mind that kitty litter doesn’t have the same melting properties as salt, but it will definitely help you get un-stuck in a pinch!
